AUE Fashion Show 2019 By: Sarah Jamal

Mohammed Saad aljundi is one of the students in the American university in the Emirates, who won an award in the fashion show that occurred in the university in March 2019. He won an award for designing a simple and elegant dress which was liked by many, everyone liked his innovative participation. This fashion show took place in the campus and all the designs shown were made by the students, it was an amazing event as many people from the fashion field were invited from different countries and various types of designs were viewed. Mohammed’s looks were the best out of all in my opinion, the dress he made was classic and elegant which made it worth winning an award. Mohammed Aljundi said “It was the first time for me to participate in the fashion show and I really enjoyed because I learned alot especially how to handle the real life in the media sector. All designs were done by the media students for practice purposes to help them gain practical experience. It was definitely was a good experience for the media students to work practically in the media field.

Noor wins second place in calligraphy competition

Assistant Professor of Media and Mass Communication, Dr. Noor Yusoff, was recently awarded second place in a calligraphy competition held by a Dubai gallery on 5 October 2019. Dr. Noor, who joined the faculty in August 2019, participated in the competition organized by Aisha Al Abbar Art Gallery. In line with the competition’s theme of “Tolerance,” Dr. Noor produced artwork that featured both Romanised and Arabic calligraphy. All participants were required to start and complete their artwork on canvas within a time limit of two hours at the gallery.

Another positive outcome from the calligraphy competition was the enthusiasm of the gallery owner to establish ties with Dr. Noor as a member of the faculty. This includes the possibility of future cultural events and programs to promote Arabic calligraphy to university students. The University congratulates Dr. Noor on his professional achievement.

CMMC is launching our very own chapter of Lambda Pi Eta! …Coming soon, In Spring, 2020

The College of Media and Mass Communication (CMMC) is now one of the 500+ communication departments in universities across the world with its very own chapter of official communication studies honor society, Lamda Pi Eta. Lambda Pi Eta (LPH) is the National Communication Association’s official honor society at four-year colleges and universities. LPH represents what Aristotle described in The Rhetoric as three ingredients of persuasion: logos (Lambda), meaning logic; pathos (Pi), relating to emotion; and ethos (Eta), defined as character credibility and ethics. Lambda Pi Eta recognises, fosters, and rewards outstanding scholastic achievement while stimulating interest in the communication discipline. The honor society recognises outstanding scholars in Communication.  Recognise, foster and reward outstanding scholastic achievement in communication studies. Stimulate interest in the field of communication.  Promote and encourage professional development among communication majors. Provide an opportunity to discuss and exchange ideas in the field of communication. Establish and maintain closer relationships between faculty and students. Explore options for graduate education in communication students. Dr. Kyung Sun Lee will be serving as the advisor of the Chapter. Currently, enrolled students in good standing that meet the above criteria are encouraged to join the steering committee as the College prepares the chapter’s rollout in Spring, 2020.

Philosophical psychology in a seminar at CMMC

November 18, 2019

The College of Media and Mass Communication (CMMC) organised a seminar as part of an introductory course in philosophy, which is taught by Associate Professor Dr. Ahmed Khamis Al-Janabi. The seminar presented by psychologist and sociologist from the Ministry of Health in Dubai, Mr. Wael Kamel was entitled “Philosophical Psychology.” In this lecture, Mr. Wael spoke to students about the relationship between psychology and philosophy. This participation is evident by both trying to answer the question of “who am I?” In terms of philosophy and psychology, man cannot be separated from his environment and his thoughts and behaviours cannot be understood away from his social milieu.

Students of Integrated Marketing Communication — along with Dr. Basant Eyada — visit Al-Sayegh media.  CMMC students are introduced to the different agency departments and attend a session on setting advertising strategies.

Students of Integrated Marketing Communication have another field visit to Radio Hala. The students attend a session on Radio advertising, copy writing, and strategies of radio advertisement placement.

Mrs. Razan Takash (AUE Assistant Professor of Media and Mass Communication) with her students in a field visit to Middle East Broadcasting Corporation Studios in Dubai Studio City. The aim of the visit was to give students a tour of the facilities — and a behind the scenes look — at how “Sabah Alkheir Ya Arab” works. The students toured the facility and spent time in the gallery watching the Sabah El Kheir team film a live episode of the show and got a firsthand experience of the work that happens in the control room.

The  student of the College of Media and Mass Communication (CMMC) with Dr. Walaa Fouda in a field visit to Al-Sayegh media. The main aim of this visit was to show our students the “real process” of advertising production, and relate the media theories they have studied in class to practical real-work application

Another visit to on behalf of CMMC students to Dubai Knowledge summit 2019 with students from organizational communication and international public relations courses. The students attended various sessions about media transparency and sustainable energy — and moreover, the future of education in the UAE.

International Media and Its Impact on International Relations in a seminar

Associate Professor Dr. Ahmed Khamis Janabi in the Faculty of Media and Mass Communication at the American University in the UAE organized a seminar titled “International Media and Its Impact on International Relations” within the context mass communication and international relations. Mr. Hossam al-Ahbabi — the Editor-in-Chief of Al-Sharqeya Television –– gave the lecture, which significantly benefited the students in international media. The Faculty of Media and Mass Communication awarded a certificate of appreciation with the prestigious AUE University Trophy to Professor Hossam Al-Ahbabi.

CMMC students participate in the Student Forum of Al Qasimia University

CMMC students participated in the second students’ forum of Al-Qasimia University in Sharjah under the supervision of Dr.Walaa Fouda, With a paper presentation on media freedom and cultures’ changes.

Al-Qasimia University, headed by Dr. Rashad Salem, invited students of the Media College of the American University in the Emirates to participate in the Student Forum with an important point in the field of media research. The students performed in the presentation a very impressive performance and they were honored as they received certificates of appreciation and Dr. Wala Fouda received the Qasimia University Trophy in appreciation of her efforts in the external student activity.
