The American University in the Emirates (AUE) celebrated the Arabic language in the International Mother Language day which falls on the 24th of February of each year and proclaimed by general Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
The ceremony, which was held on the university campus, started with Dr. Thaer Oudeh Assistant Professor of College of Education who addresses the necessity of the Arabic language and the important to preserve it in a world where students and people in general rely on the internet and social media to communicate with other in foreign languages or very short word sentences.
” Arabic language might be weak today but it will never extinct because there is a divine promise that it will remain until the Day of Judgment, and this is mentioned in the Holy Quran, knowing that it is the language of the people of Paradise” said Prof. Dr. Muthanna Ghani Abdul Razzaq, President of the American University in the Emirates.
He then added “We offer prizes and rewards for ideas and initiatives considering the Arabic language in addition, to cash prizes for those who will memorize portions of the Holy Quran”.
The celebration was a great opportunity for all students and faculty members to express their love towards the Arabic language as various students performed poetry and other talents regarding the Arabic language. AUE family enjoyed the ceremony programs which was prepared by the Arabic Literature Club.
